The number of self-consumption facilities generating electricity from solar energy increased to more than 2,700 in Andalusia in late 2019.
In other words, the number of installations increased sevenfold from 2018, when they amounted to 382, according to the Government of Andalusia.
Currently, these facilities have a capacity of 32 MW for self-consumption in the Andalusian Community.
According to estimates prepared by the Andalusian Energy Agency and announced during a meeting with the Self-consumption Commission of Andalusia.
The purpose of said meeting was to increase the development of these installations in the region. The commission also wishes to activate the economic and industrial activity associated with the renewable sector and cogeneration.
The new director general for Industry, Energy, and Mines Francisco Javier Ramírez spoke about the importance of this meeting.
According to Ramírez, the goal of the Committee is to encourage self-consumption as a means to harness renewable resources to reduce the electrical bill.

The official also highlighted that the move “evidences the great interest sparked by the idea of turning self-consumption facilities into everyday items for electricity generation for Andalusian citizens.”
For his part, the CEO of the Andalusian Energy Agency Jorge Jiménez Luna, highlighted the issue about resources.
He recalled that the regional government reprogrammed the FEDER funds for the decarbonization of the economy.
In this sense, an additional €10.7 million will be invested in solar energy self-consumption.
The funds, he said, will be distributed in the following manner: €5 million for companies and €2 million for citizens; in line with the Andalusia Sustainable Construction Program for green energy development. Also, €3.7 million for small and medium enterprises through the program’s SME initiative.
The work team formed by the Directorate General of Industry, Energy, and Mines is focused on improving and speeding up the processes for the execution; legalization, and commissioning of solar power self-consumption installations, the Agency indicated.

Another focus will be adapting the new regulation and the associated process for the energy retailers and distributors as well as the local and autonomous administrators.
Similarly, the team has discussed the proper sizing of this equipment as to eliminate, or at least minimize, energy surplus; while also adjusting power generation to the demand during the busiest hours of the day.
To this end, it is highly important to contact an authorized and properly trained installer that can correctly advise the citizen or company, the Agency recommended.
